Technologies That Support Dementia Care

I researched and mapped out technology products that could help support the care of my grandparents with dementia, while also listening to the opinions of the family members who care for them alongside me. For the classification of various dementia symptoms, I referred to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's policy report titled "Understanding Dementia".

Supporting Dementia Care
I’m a Japanese high school student currently studying abroad in the United States. My grandfather has been caring for my grandmother, who has dementia, but recently he himself was diagnosed with mild dementia. As my mother has taken on more of the caregiving responsibilities, I’ve started helping out in any way I can.
There seem to be many technologies that can support dementia care, but since my grandparents are not familiar with new devices and my mother is often too busy to research them, I began looking into useful products myself. I’ve been introducing these tools to my family and helping with setup and instructions.
I’m sharing some examples of technologies that I’ve found helpful—or potentially helpful—in the hope that they might be of some use to other people living with dementia or families supporting their loved ones.
